Barry McAlister
Pottery
A former dancer and choreographer, Barry McAlister has translated her love of elegant lines and graceful movement into sculptural ceramic vases. The sculptural quality of the pieces lend themselves particularly well to the contemporary home, or one which enjoys an Asian esthetic. Beautiful enough to display without flowers, they make an excellent three-dimensional sculpture on their own. Water tight, each piece she creates lends itself to unusual flower arrangements. Students of Ikebana especially love her work.
Some of her pieces begin with hand-building, others being thrown on the wheel. In this series, most pieces have been worked and re-worked until their final incarnation. After that, a mold is made to make them more readily reproduced as well as affordable. Each sculpture is created in Barry's home studio in Bothell, Washington.
