Pendulum Clock
Inspired by the artist Mondrian, bold blocks of color and black painted lines evoke a contemporary mood. An aluminum pendulum swings behind the rectangular opening cut into the center of the clock in the lower half, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. A hand held plasma cutter carves the designs into aluminum, which is then coated with other metals (typically copper, bronze and iron). Each of these metals reacts differently to the chemical patinas and dyes with which Rickard finishes the pieces, which reflect a love of geometry, movement and color.
